SCL Services - Gas Safety Inspections
If you have gas powered equipment in your laundry, annual gas safety checks are required by law as per the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations of 1998. The latter act states that all gas-related work, including fittings and checks, must be carried out a by a licensed provider.
Under regulation 35, the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) regulations 1998 states:
"This regulation requires an employer or self-employed person to ensure that any gas appliance, flue or installation pipework installed at a place of work they control is maintained in a safe condition."
Furthermore, all gas heating equipment must be installed in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations and compliant with British Standard BS8446:2005.
As Gas Safe registered engineers (Registration No. 555185), SCL Services are qualified to inspect and certify your equipment as well as carrying out any necessary repairs or rectification work. As a guide, our routine inspection covers the following points:
- Inspect/clean any lint screens and filters, quoting for replacement should these be required
- Inspect your extractor fan(s), clean if required and check for correct operation
- Inspect the gas burner, clean if required and check gas flame picture
- Inspect the temperature sensors, safety thermostats, clean if required and check for correct operation
- Inspect ignition devices and check flame failure devices
- Check ventilation requirements are up to current standards/legal requirements
- Inspect exhaust ducting and termination
- Inspect gas pipework and emergency controls
- Carry out a gas tightness test
- Carry out a working pressure test
- Provided all the above points meet Gas Safe Register standards, the annual inspection certificate will be issued at the time of our visit.
Any defects noted will be advised immediately, with recommendations for rectification. If the case warrants a warning notice, this will be issued on the spot, again with recommendations to restore to good order.
